Historical Romance 101

Today’s topic is tearjerkers or lighthearted romances, and since Julia Quinn and Tessa Dare seem to have the market cornered on lighthearted romances, I’m sticking with tearjerkers… even though I’m not a crier when it comes to books. Unless it involves dogs. Because dogs.

And rather than include individual books, I’m going to feature the ultimate tearjerker author: Maya Banks. Because she doesn’t get as much love (from me, anyway) as she deserves. Maya Banks’s Highlanders are worth a read.

Don’t forget to stop by Quinn’s Book Nook, Feminist Fairy Tales, and Addicted to Romance for their favorite tearjerkers or lighthearted romances!

  1. oh I hear ya on Maya Banks!!! I am not a fan of her CR—however when her historical’s came out, I picked up In bed With A Highlander and LOVED it. These are some of my top favorites and I have read alot of historical romance. I honestly can’t wait for her to continue them. Each one is great for a tearjerker, they all get to me. Alhough I love In Bed With A Highlander the most, because it can make you laugh and make you cry!!! Love that balance.

I love all of these! Maya Banks’s historicals are just wonderful. She knows how to bring the emotions…and the tears. I haven’t read any of her contemporaries, but I don’t think they are for me. When I think of tearjerker romances, I usually think of Mary Balogh and Lorraine Heath.
