Angel Ramirez left the safecracking game five years ago, and she’s worked hard to make amends and build an honest life. But when a beloved aunt is kidnapped, she must reunite with her girl gang to acquire the unique ransom: Walter Borgola’s prized diamonds. It’s a simple job that turns into a nightmare, thanks to a surprisingly clever—and searingly sexy—security guard named Cole Hawkins.

Cole is one of the Association’s most brilliant agents, under deep cover investigating a ruthless killer. He’s also running out of time: hundreds will die if he doesn’t stop the plan Borgola’s set into motion. Catching Angel is the break he needed--he promises not to turn her in if she poses as his lover and uses her unique talents to unlock the sociopath’s dungeon vaults.

But as pretend passions turn real, Cole regrets drawing Angel into his deadly game…and danger is closer than either of them could ever imagine.

Thoughts on Against the Dark

Against the Dark was so good I had to get the second book in the series immediately upon finishing. I do love books like that. It opened up a world of possibilities: what is this Association Cole works for, and where can I met the guys behind it?

Because if they’re all like Cole… incredibly smart and dedicated, which makes it completely understandable why Angel is attracted to him despite knowing she shouldn’t. But can you really blame her? You can’t. It helps that Cole is just as attracted.

And when they come together? It’s hot. A nice way to spend a cold winter afternoon, actually.

If I could say anything negative about Against the Dark, it’s that I wanted to spend more time with Angel and Cole, immersing myself in their lives and their world. (And that’s not a negative. Not really.) Real characters, real struggles. Angel with her interior design and complicated feelings about herself. Cole with his steel trap of a mind and hard upbringing.

Then there was the two of them, teaming up to take down an evil asshole. Angel, the reformed jewel thief. Cole, the undercover agent. Forced to put aside their differences, which really means Cole maneuvering Angel into acting as his lover and Angel being unable to say no, and cast together in a den of not very nice people… they manage to fall in love.
