If Claire Morgan had known she’d be chaperoning a senior citizen sock hop, she wouldn’t have given up smoking. Yet here she was stuck in Jackrabbit Junction, Arizona, with an ornery old man, his smartass dog, and a parade of blue-haired babes.

When Claire’s grandfather and his army buddies converge in the Arizona desert, it’s her thankless job to keep them out of trouble with the opposite sex. But when she finds a human leg bone and partners with a reluctant geotechnician to dig up secrets from the past, trouble finds her. She’s losing her heart. Worse, if she doesn’t stop digging, she could lose her life.

Mysteries, mayhem, and cat fights! SCORE!

Thoughts on Dance of the Winnebagos

Oh, Ann Charles, you never fail to amuse me. You give me sassy women who stick their noses in things they probably shouldn’t. You give me old folks who give me a giggle with their candid observations on life and the women they want to bed. You give me danger and mayhem and kisses that steam up the pages.

ALL THINGS I ENJOY!

So. Claire. She’s fun. She has a vested interest in finding a way for Ruby to hang onto the mines she’s about to sell. Her cynical outlook on men takes a beating when Mac drops into her life. He’s a good guy and he sets Claire’s panties on fire like it’s nobody’s business. Throw in a trio of nosy coots who like to share the stories of their conquests with the ladies and Claire’s life gets complicated.

Did I mention the mystery part? Because there is one of those. While the “bad guy” isn’t exactly a secret, the reasoning behind why they did what they did is fun to unravel. Add in some spooky mines and a stubborn dog and you’re just rolling in fun.

While I don’t know if I enjoy this series more than the Deadwood series, I’m completely willing to dive into book 2 and stick with these characters just to see what shenanigans they’ll get into next. Honestly, they make me laugh and that makes me happy.

  1. I’m always willing to pick up a book from a funny author who entertained me. These characters sound right up my alley (as long as the dog doesn’t die…but it doesn’t sound like that kind of book, right? RIGHT?!?).

  2. Any book that makes me laugh and just have fun while reading is an automatic winner for me Kelly! I definitely need to give this author a try, you are clearly a big fan and I’m never not amused by your take on her books, so I need to make this happen:)
