Billy grinned. “Oh, New York,” he whispered. “We’re gonna have so much fun.”

I Hunt Killers introduced the world to Jazz, the son of history’s most infamous serial killer, Billy Dent.

In an effort to prove murder didn’t run in the family, Jazz teamed with the police in the small town of Lobo’s Nod to solve a deadly case. And now, when a determined New York City detective comes knocking on Jazz’s door asking for help, he can’t say no. The Hat-Dog Killer has the Big Apple–and its police force–running scared. So Jazz and his girlfriend, Connie, hop on a plane to the big city and get swept up in a killer’s murderous game.

Brain has exploded. Jazz! Connie! HOWIE!

Thoughts on Game

Barry Lyga, what have you done to my brain??

Game, like I Hunt Killers before it, kept me constantly on edge. Jazz’s character is unlike anyone else. You feel the line that Jazz walks between being what his father brought him up to be and being a normal human being–or as normal as Jazz can be.

It’s an eerie line to walk and part of why this series is so addictive.

With book 2, we get to see the world from both Connie’s and Howie’s perspectives. It adds an extra layer to the story, expanding the story line and allowing us MOAR. (More drama. More intrigue. More mystery. All good.) The answers that Connie is chasing are perhaps the ones I want answered most, as they’re ones that are part of the overriding arc of Billy Dent and just what HE has been up to.

Also? Howie is, quite simply, extremely hilarious and vibrant. I need more Howie in my life.

Game is aptly named, with everything seemingly a game of some kind. And while some of our questions are answered–and the games explained–Game seems to open more questions and throw us into deep suspicion: who can we trust? I’m no longer sure which way is up and if there’s anyone who is truly worth trusting.

(And this is part of why my brain is broken.)

The ending is one that left me needing the next book NOW (and yes, there is one because how could there NOT be one?) and wondering where Barry Lyga will lead us next. Jazz! Connie! Howie!

  1. My brain is broken, too. *whimpers*

I must admit that Howie’s attempts at seduction … well, they didn’t *make* the book for me because I love how screwed up Jazz is but they added some much needed hilarity. Dude. Howie. No. Just, no.

  2. Eep! Reader brain EXPLOSIONS?!? Double-eep! I still haven’t read the first one but I WILL NOW. Thank you SO much for adding to my list. (that was both good and filled with sarcasm at the same time)

  3. oh, this sounds FANTASTIC. i loved the first book and i’m kinda obsessed with Jazz, though maybe i’ll wait until the next book is out before i read this one?

  4. I was definitely grossed out by the first one and slightly disturbed (which is weird since I love shows like Dexter!), but I do want to check this one out … I’ll probably wait until the library has the audio since the audio for the first book made the story extra creepy!

    Great review!

  5. Okay Amanda. We need to have a chat. You have me DYING (pun not intended) to read these books, but I don’t do well with gore. Is there a lot of it in these? I’m find with suspense, I love a good thriller, but I don’t do well with the blood and guts. I am a wuss. I’m also worried about this ending, so maybe it’s a good idea to wait until all 3 books are out?

  6. Howie was a star in this book. He needs his own comedy show or something. He is a GEM!
I thought the “game” aspect of this book was brilliant. And the ending. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!

I just listened to the audiobook of I HUNT KILLERS and that was awesome! He did the best voices, especially of Billy Dent. I could so picture the whole thing in my head. It made it SOOOO creepy. I mean, I’m waiting for a serial killer to break into my house and do horrible things, but it was SOOO good. I was debating about reading THE GAME because I didn’t know if it was going to scare the begeezus out of me. But you make it sound so good.
