Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and I shamelessly plug each other, share the fantastic posts, giveaways, or whatever else we’ve found and loved by other awesome bloggers (or authors!) during the week, and talk about the books we plan on reading in the coming week.
On a Book Bender Recap
- Kelly Reviews: Nearly Departed in Deadwood by Ann Charles (8) — Fun with a side of danger!
- Top Off Tuesday — Everyone liked the view.
- Review: Tricked by Kevin Hearne (8) — Gods below, I missed this series!
- Who Am I Stalking? Michelle Muto. — Did a twist on my usual interview and had one of my favorite authors instead of a blogger.
Amanda Around the Blogosphere
- Language Management, LLC: Self-Editing Can Improve Your Writing — I had a lot of fun writing this. Is that nerdy? (I hope it is. Also, I call my writing pompous and formal. You should read it for that alone.)
- Free Books Need Love , Too: Amanda and Kelly review: Valentine’s Day Virgin
- Free Books Need Love , Too: Penetrating the Depths: Valentine’s Day Special
- Free Books Need Love , Too: Amanda Reviews: The Naughty List — More wang for your fuck!
Meanwhile, in Amanda’s World
I think everyone is pretty well aware that my business blog has both an RSS feed and newsletter. When I first started, the two were identical. Now I’ve started to move away from that–newsletter subscribers get a summary of my blog post (with the option of clicking through to learn more) AND something extra. Usually some kind of trick or tip that does not appear on my blog. If you’re curious about the difference, check out my latest newsletter. (I also created a page with info about what you get and an easy sign up form. You know. If you’re interested.)
My Social Media Kick product is in the beta testing stages now. I’ve got some revising to do, but I am very excited to launch it. While I wait for my betas to finish, I started working on another product–this time, on blogging. Oh! And my marketing services are now LIVE. AND! If you’ve downloaded Through a Visitor’s Eyes (here, in case you haven’t), you can leave me FEEDBACK. Tell me what you loved/hated.
I’ve also been poking around my site and making more design tweaks. But I’ll tell you more about that once I’ve finished the tweaking.
On 25 Hour Books
- Warm Bodies {book review} ****1/2 – poetically gritty, gruesomely humorous, wonderful undertones
Around the Book Blogging Community
- Parajunkee and the Bookish Brunette are putting on a Book Blogger Twitter Conference. I’ve been nominated for the Overachiever and Twitter Queen awards. :D A big thanks to those who nominated me!
- Felicia (Geeky Blogger’s Book Blog) put together another list of recommended reads based on the comments she received on her first recommendation post.
- Jamie (Perpetual Page Turner) talks about USED BOOKS.
- Maggie Stiefvater wrote a great article about being PURPOSEFUL in your writing. I think this is HUGE and probably not something a lot of people pay attention to, even though it affects them (both as a writer and a reader).
Search Terms

I’m loving all your business ventures. So awesome to watch you expand and shine. :)
I should try Warm Bodies. I was never interested in it before because it was zombies with logic and reason, which hasn’t worked for me in the past. However, adored the movie to pieces, though I understand it is different. I should still read it…
Amanda @ On a Book Bender February 17, 2013 at 11:50 am
I’m pretty curious about Warm Bodies as well. I really like Diana Rowland’s take on zombies, so this might be more up my alley. :)
Tara SG (25 Hour Books) February 18, 2013 at 10:11 am
You should! It was soooo much better than I expected!
Mary @ BookSwarm February 17, 2013 at 9:11 am
You get the best search terms! Mine are always so boring (I think “Canada” was a big one this week. Really?!?).
So excited to see where your business takes you! Good on you!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender February 17, 2013 at 11:55 am
lol. I get a lot of boring search terms, too. It’s just that I don’t share those. ;) The Nathan Fillion one was pretty awesome, though, and I bet it was from my interview with you. :)
Thanks, Mary. :D
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal February 17, 2013 at 12:12 pm
I am all for Nathan Fillion being seduced during the Zombie Apocalypse. Or is he the one doing the seducing? EITHER WAY!
YAY for accidentally finishing a book in one sitting. THESE THINGS HAPPEN!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender February 17, 2013 at 12:34 pm
You would!
It’s been a while since I’ve read a book in one sitting. I miss that!
Sarah (saz101) February 17, 2013 at 4:24 pm
Oooh, Amanda, I loved that post from Maggie. It was brilliant and and and ♥
And a book in one sitting? I do not remember when I last did that. I’m too ADD. I didn’t even finish The Naught List in one sitting O__o
Amanda @ On a Book Bender February 17, 2013 at 6:58 pm
Maggie really nailed it with her post, didn’t she? Something every writer should be aware of.
Sarah (saz101) February 17, 2013 at 6:59 pm
DEFINITELY.
Complicated idea, put so succintly.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender February 18, 2013 at 9:06 am
I would bet that a lot of writers–and readers–AREN’T aware of this either.
Sarah (saz101) February 18, 2013 at 4:35 pm
AGREED.
Or… I don’t know. Sometimes you can have a vague idea of something without being able to describe it? (I know exactly what the word ‘irony’ means, but I struggle to give a definition :P).
BUT.
Knowing the definition, having it in your mind clearly, that makes a difference, I think.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender February 18, 2013 at 4:45 pm
Irony: the opposite of wrinkly. (Just kidding. It’s the opposite of what you’d expect. It’s why irony and sarcasm get along so well.)
I think it speaks to how aware you are of your writing and what you’re saying–not just with your words, but with your situations and your characters’ behaviors.
Jess @ Gone with the Words February 18, 2013 at 8:43 am
I love how hard you’re working on your business AND still have time to read and tweet and blog. You totally ARE an overachiever! lol LURVE YOU!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender February 18, 2013 at 9:07 am
Aww. Thanks, Jess. :) I’m hoping all my hard work pays off in the end. (Still waiting!)
Felicia February 18, 2013 at 9:23 am
I love that you have time for business and bookish things. I am seriously falling behind on the behind the scenes stuff while gearing up the other one.
So glad Tara is back!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender February 18, 2013 at 9:27 am
The bookish things often fall to the side for me, but I’m working on creating balance. It’s really important for me mental health wise to have balance. Otherwise I burn out on something.
Me too! Especially since she was so instrumental in getting me to start my own blog. :)
Tara SG (25 Hour Books) February 18, 2013 at 10:11 am
I *heart* you guys big time!
Tara SG (25 Hour Books) February 18, 2013 at 10:10 am
Time for me to start stalking your business site…
I stand firm in believing that being an “over-achiever” is a good thing!!
I wish I had blog searches that didn’t have the word “tattoo” in them….
I have Immortal Rules on my Kindle… Would you suggest I move it up the TBR pile?
Amanda @ On a Book Bender February 18, 2013 at 10:15 am
Yes. Yes, it is. You should like me on Facebook, too.
Um. I’ve had The Immortal Rules on my currently reading shelf since December 22nd. Make of that what you will.
Kristilyn (Reading in Winter) February 19, 2013 at 3:36 pm
It sounds like your business is going really well! I’m happy for you! :)
And yay for reading The Immortal Rules! I plan to finish my 3-month read soon …
Amanda @ On a Book Bender February 19, 2013 at 3:38 pm
Well, there’s going well as in doing things and going well as in making money. They are not always the same. Unfortunately.
It’s tough. At this point, I just want to give up on it, but I also just want to FINISH IT. Hmph.
Nikki Steele February 20, 2013 at 9:41 am
I loved your writing post and so excited to see all the funzies as your business expands. Will have to sign up for that newsletter — you hooked me!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender February 20, 2013 at 10:05 am
