Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and I shamelessly plug each other, share the fantastic posts, giveaways, or whatever else we’ve found and loved by other awesome bloggers (or authors!) during the week, and talk about the books we plan on reading in the coming week.
On a Book Bender Recap
- Review: Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells (8) – Fantastic UF, and great series potential.
- Top Off Tuesday — Jenny said this one has a “taunting towel.” I think she’s right.
- Review: The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky (4) – Fell short of my high expectations.
- Who Am I Stalking? Sarah @ saz101
Amanda Around the Blogosphere
- I reviewed Thrill of the Hunt by Nathalie Gray at Reading In Winter (After Dark).
- On Thursday, I talked about consistency and why you need it for your website on Language Management, LLC.
- Amelia (The Authoress) interviewed me as part of her Saturday Spotlight feature.
- GLA @ Reading the Paranormal: Amanda and Kelly review: Sex in the Vibrator Store by Trinity Lee — I try to make an analogy with square/rectangles and sex/penetration and… fail. I blame my cold medicine.
- GLA @ Reading the Paranormal: Amanda and Kelly review: Taken By Tentacles While My Boyfriend Slept by CJ Smalls — I’m still weirded out by my ability to quickly and accurately type tentacles.
Meanwhile, in Amanda’s World
I started coming down with a cold on Wednesday, and spent the rest of the week in bed or lazing around, trying to not get sicker. I don’t know if it worked. And the cold medicine makes me loopy. =/ I did blow through most of the Experiment in Terror series by Karina Halle this week though, and I’m so FLAILY about it right now. I bought the latest book in the series, but I’m AFRAID to read it because…THEN THERE WILL BE NO MORE DEX AND PERRY. And I don’t know if I can handle that. *flails more* So I think I’m going to read something else and see if the EIT series helped beat my reading slump, or if it was just immune to it.
Around the Book Blogging Community
- There are not enough words to express how fun Maureen Johnson is. First, a snippet of a conversation she had with a Waterstones branch on Twitter. Then on a serious note, Maureen answers the question: “Should I NaNo?” And I really like her perspective on it.
- Ann Aguirre talks about how be more productive with writing. Her process can likely be applied to just about anything you want to turn into a habit.
- Kevin Hearne talks about why an author may not be able to visit a bookstore near you. (This is good stuff, by the way. And it makes sense.)
Search Terms

Well, I never.
did you mean search functionality — No.
free book tentacle romance — I have no idea why this term would lead people to my blog. NO IDEA.
romance novels ex cons on parole — Jennifer Lane has a great series! It’s called the Conduct series.

I read a lot…and then I bought a few books. And then I read a couple of those. Luckily, I read enough that my overall count went down.

I hope you are feeling better! Being sick is no bueno.
YAY! I love Jen Lane’s series. So fun. And why the heck would people come poking around here for tentacles sex. So strange…
My Lord’s Fall review is up the 8th. I’m actually posting reviews for the last 3 books in the series that week. It shall be Thea week! :)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 18, 2012 at 9:57 am
No. Being sick is not good at all. But I am really thankful that I’m self-employed right now and could take the day (err… two days) off and just rest. I think that helped.
SO MUCH LOVE for the Elder Races series. And Thea.

Do people really expect authors to do all the bookstores? I rarely get authors coming to my town; I’m only a couple of hours away from London AND Britain is tiny in comparison to America. But I don’t expect them to come down to the arse end of nowhere!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 18, 2012 at 10:03 am
Um. I don’t know that people *expect* authors to hit all the bookstores, but I do think that many people are disappointed when authors don’t come near them. And in their disappointment, they maybe don’t stop to think WHY the authors can’t/don’t make a stop in their area.
I get a few authors who stop in my area, but it makes much more sense to see them stopping in bigger cities (like Chicago). I can’t imagine that it’s very cost-effective to stop in Minnesota.
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal November 18, 2012 at 12:22 pm
You read a lot of books this week! YAY!
Ann Aguirre is freakishly awesome. Out of curiosity, did you happen to read the comments where she said she wrote 18K in 24 hours when she was finishing up Horde? She was all “I slept for 2 hours, showered once and ate. Other than that, I was writing.” *boggles*
Since you’re on the mend now, we can do ALL THE THINGS this next week. Read ALL THE BOOKS! Cause ALL THE SHENANIGANS! Drink ALL THE DRINKS! It’ll be awesome!
Ooh! Also, remind me at some point to set up my PG Tumblr. I want to Tumble non-naughty things sometimes. Not often, mind you, but sometimes.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 18, 2012 at 12:36 pm
I did! I am SO PROUD of myself. I don’t know if I’m ready to repeat that, but it does feel good to get back to reading.
I did see that, yes. We can bow down to Ann Aguirre’s writing prowess.
Ha. As long as I’m on cold medicine, all my shenanigans might end up being completely unintentional. o.O O.O O.o
Kristin @ My ParaHangover November 18, 2012 at 1:41 pm
I love Kevin Hearne! I’m trying so freaking hard to convince my hubs to let me go visit my folks so I can go see him in Cleveland. Heck, I’d take my son with me if I had to (eh, he’s only in first grade, what will he miss?). But that was a great post about the economics of author tours. I remember the Smart Chicks tour said something similar.
Feel better soon!!! :D
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 18, 2012 at 2:25 pm
Kevin Hearne is AWESOME. I doubt he’ll ever get close to Minnesota, but Kelly said he was coming to her area, so I will live vicariously through her. Good luck getting to the Cleveland signing! :)
Hannah @ Once Upon A Time November 18, 2012 at 6:07 pm
I actually seem to have beaten my slump!! For now. Awesomeness! All I want to do is read and read some more. Perhaps why I’m afraid to pick up a christmas chick lit because that’ll likely turn me off again.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 18, 2012 at 10:12 pm
Yay for beating the slump! I’m crossing my fingers that stays for me. Part of my problem is just…sticking with a book once I start. So I flail and can’t decide what book to read. Ha.
Hannah @ Once Upon A Time November 19, 2012 at 7:18 am
That was my problem for months. Also the reason I have so many “on hold”. Especially when I was working and reading so slowly my reading mood would switch halfway through.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 19, 2012 at 9:40 am
Yeah. I think I just put the books aside…whenever I get back to them, I’ll probably start them all over again. *sigh*
Leanne Yang @ Escaping With Books November 18, 2012 at 9:06 pm
The search term had me laughing like crazy!
I’m not in a reading slump, but I feel as if I’m moving towards it.. ): John Green brought my out of my misery because it was so good, but then I was miserable because the book was so sad! A lot of the books that I read now are just kind of… meh. Maybe I need to read the Inheritance Cycle or Harry Potter again, LOL.
Hope you get better soon, Amanda!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 18, 2012 at 10:16 pm
Eep. Feeling like you’re moving toward a reading slump is no good either. Part of my problem is sticking with a book once I start. I’m REALLY good at starting a book, but for some reason, they just don’t hold my attention if I have to put them down. =/
Rereading a favorite book is always a good tactic!
Thank you, Leanne. :)
Kristilyn (Reading in Winter) November 19, 2012 at 9:43 am
That sucks that you’re sick. :( But you read a ton! That’s good! And I’m so happy you now understand my thoughts on the EIT series … BUT I do say go ahead and read the next book. There are still THREE more books in the series, and — if you head over to my blog today — a super surprise in February. So there will be more Dex and Perry!!
Hope you have a good week!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 19, 2012 at 9:47 am
I saw! I SAW! I am EXCITED! (Though I don’t want to wait until February because… *whines* It’s sooooooo faaaaaar awaaaaaay.)
