Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and I shamelessly plug each other, share the fantastic posts, giveaways, or whatever else we’ve found and loved by other awesome bloggers (or authors!) during the week, and talk about the books we plan on reading in the coming week.
On a Book Bender Recap
- Kelly Reviews: Coraline by Neil Gaiman (9) – Button eyes, grasping hands! Oh, my!
- Top Off Tuesday — Lots of nipple talk here.
- Review: Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (7) – Overshadowed by praise, but still good.
- Is your website working for you? — I asked about what you think makes an effective blog.
Amanda Around the Blogosphere
- On Monday, I was over at Reading in Winter (After Dark) to talk about the WTF? erotica that was The 22 Year Old Virgin’s First Island Trip. This one is horrifying, y’all. HORRIFYING. (Far, far more horrifying than a Northerner attempting to use “y’all.”)
- Kelly and I posted a special GLA on Wednesday, giving you The List of penis names. The book itself was called Let’s Fuck Before the Zombies Get Us.
- GLA @ Reading the Paranormal: Amanda and Kelly review: Riding Red Hood by Adrianna White
- GLA @ Reading the Paranorma: Amanda and Kelly review: Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun by Alessia Brio
Meanwhile, in Amanda’s World
With my reading slump still in full swing and the beginning of NaNo, life has been quiet. How about a teaser from my NaNo story?
Once you die, the rituals that follow are not for you—they’re for the living. The dead don’t care how you mourn them. To find the importance in life, you have to celebrate it. Dead people don’t celebrate.
Around the Book Blogging Community
- On Reading in Winter (After Dark) Kelly wants to know why we read erotica. As I said in the comments: “Toss out the flowers and give me the DIRT!”
- Felicia (Geeky Blogger’s Book Blog) shares her favorite audiobook narrators. I agree with the Luke Daniels pick–he remains one of my favorites.
- The ladies at The Book Monsters announced that they’re having a Fall Pick Your Thon (read or review) from November 23rd to November 25th.
- Kristilyn (Reading In Winter) put together a list of book bloggers participating in NaNo and some writing advice from authors.
- Maureen Johnson posted about what’s going on in her life (which is A LOT) and I just wanted to share this because it makes me want to celebrate having GOOD FRIENDS. And buy all of Libba Bray’s books.
- Epic Reads had a fun graphic of books set in each of the 50 states.

Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal November 4, 2012 at 8:15 am
Ha! I am to blame for SO MUCH this week! I like it. I like it a lot!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 9:09 am
You’re ALSO responsible for the books I read this week. Go you!
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal November 4, 2012 at 11:25 am
*buffs nails* I have my sticky hands ALL OVER your books, don’t I? *finger guns*
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 11:25 am
You do. I… kinda like it.
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal November 4, 2012 at 11:36 am
My nephew had pancakes for breakfast and his hands really were sticky. It wasn’t nearly as enjoyable as I imagine my sticky hands are.
*sticks you with my stick*
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 11:38 am
It’s a special kind of stick. A love stick. Wait. That kind of sounds like another penis name. “Let me love you with my lovestick.”
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal November 4, 2012 at 11:38 am
My lovestick beats your purple headed yogurt slinger any day of the week!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 11:40 am
“My lovestick is built for loving. Your purple headed yogurt slinger is built for yogurt slinging. There’s really no contest which is better.”
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal November 4, 2012 at 6:16 pm
I… cannot argue with your logic.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 6:19 pm
*finger guns*
Alexa November 4, 2012 at 9:41 am
That little snippet from your story sounds amazing! I hope that is going well for you.
Thanks for talking about the Fall Pick Your Thon I will have to go check it out. :)
Hope you have a great week!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 10:22 am
Thanks, Alexa! Have a great week, yourself. :)
Smash Attack November 4, 2012 at 10:09 am
I need a penicorn, too! That Epic Reads graphic is really neat!
I love your NaNo blurb. GOOD LUCK!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 10:22 am
We all need our own penicorn. :)
Kristilyn (Reading in Winter) November 4, 2012 at 10:30 am
Yay for NaNo! Awesome blurb. :)
I bought a Maya Banks book this week! I don’t blame Kelly for it, but I’m sure she was an inspiration …
I find reading hard during NaNo … I feel like I should be spending all of my free time writing! But I will try … I hope you can get out of your slump!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 10:47 am
Last year, I managed a pretty good number of books while I was reading (over one a week), so I think I can read, it’s just a matter of getting out of my slump.
Amy @bookgoonie November 4, 2012 at 10:45 am
I so covet your and others ability to write. So many questions. Is it a ghost story? a murder mystery? traditions? guilt?
You GO GIRL!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 10:47 am
Dun-dun-dun.
No, it’s more about grief. And other stuff. :)
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal November 4, 2012 at 11:24 am
*whispers* And sausages.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 11:25 am
Sausages is now officially the working title of my novel. I put it on the NaNo site and everything.
Hannah @ Once Upon A Time November 4, 2012 at 11:37 am
Penicorns are dickheads *snicker*
LOVE your excerpt!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 11:39 am
LITERALLY!
:) Thank you. How’s your writing coming along, Hannah?
Hannah @ Once Upon A Time November 4, 2012 at 12:27 pm
Not amazingly well. I read through a bit of what I’ve written earlier and didn’t cringe so that part is promising but for some reason I’m utterly exhausted which is making it hard to focus or think much. I really wanted to be writing about 3k per day but so far I’ve barely been making it to the daily goal set by nano. :) Not letting myself stress over it but it is a little disappointing, wish I had some way to get myself writing.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 4, 2012 at 12:33 pm
*huggles you* Most of the time, I feel like I have to physically drag the words out of my brain. It’s tough. Right now I’m just trying to stay at the daily NaNo limit, too. HANG IN THERE, HANNAH!
SaraO@TheLibrarianReads November 5, 2012 at 12:53 pm
Naomi’s deflowering may have been horrifying, but it was a decently amusing way to pass an hour ;)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 5, 2012 at 2:21 pm
I’m not sure she was even deflowered. o.O Or maybe it happened behind the scenes.
SaraO@TheLibrarianReads November 5, 2012 at 2:47 pm
Hmm…you might be right. Was there penetration? Or just lots of very odd usage of hand activities…knuckle rubbing and such…Not interested enough to reread and clarify ;)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 5, 2012 at 2:49 pm
I don’t think there was penetration. But I’m also not going to go back to clarify. *shudders*
Sarah (saz101) November 5, 2012 at 10:04 pm
PENICORN! YESSSS! YOU’RE WELCOME :D
And… Let’s Fuck Before the Zombies Get Us? Seriously? SERIOUSLY?! THIS IS A THING?!
Uh… excuse me while I… go… uh… Amazon…
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 5, 2012 at 10:31 pm
I keep getting searches for penicorn, too! It is AWESOME. (Though now that I’ve seen yours, I kind of want one for myself, too. Huh.)
Sarah (saz101) November 5, 2012 at 11:17 pm
Maybe you could do a public service and set up a Penicorn landing page to direct people to Penicorn purchasing options? :P
Seriously. It is SO cute… and it was only, like, $20, and… the detail. Like… it was all excited to see me, clearly!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender November 6, 2012 at 7:52 am
I could be a Penicorn affiliate!
