Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge [74]

Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and I shamelessly plug each other, share the fantastic posts, giveaways, or whatever else we’ve found and loved by other awesome bloggers (or authors!) during the week, and talk about the books we plan on reading in the coming week.

On a Book Bender Recap

Amanda Around the Blogosphere

Meanwhile, in Amanda’s World

Nothing to really discuss this week. The big event of note was the 5k that the boyfriend and I ran in. We decided to sign up for it back in the beginning of September so that we’d have some motivation to get ourselves out and RUN. It semi-worked. I have such a love-hate relationship with running: I hate getting out there and doing it, but I love hitting my stride about two miles in and the runner’s high afterward. And races are so, so different. But good. And you get a shirt. I like 5k shirts. And! AND! Because we ran in a Halloween race, the boyfriend decided to dress up. (I did not; I chose to stick with my neon yellow t-shirt over my hot pink long-sleeve t-shirt.) See us in our post-race awesomeness!

Yessssssss.

My GR shelves are not up for discussion at this time, however.

Awesome on the 5k! I admire you both, and adore that picture!
I look forward to your thoughts on Kristilyn’s smexytime blog.
I read Sporting Wood during Doin it Dirty. I snort-laughed through it all. Love the puns. heh.
Glad to hear you flaily-loved Cinder. I hope to get to it one day soon!

Read your craziness with Kelly and was a little scared/awed/giggling like a little girl that you made it through those…stories. Porn. Whatever. Love these reviews!

Hey, what’s your NaNo name? (Am I writing buddies with you yet? I’m MaryBrebner. Yes, overly creative when it comes to names. That’s me.)

Is it weird that out of all the words in this post, my eyes went first and foremost to the words “sporting wood”? Gutter rat, party of one:) I’m so glad you read and loved Cinder, I absolutely adored it as well and can’t wait for Scarlet. I’m really curious to see how she incorporates the new fairytale characters into Cinder’s story since Cinder’s story clearly isn’t complete.

I don’t find that weird at all, Jenny. Seems perfectly normal to me.

OMG! Part of the reason I was so flaily was because Cinder’s story ISN’T complete. *flails more* I think how Cinder’s story overlaps the new story will be interesting. I’m also guessing that Cinder won’t get her HEA until the last book. (I have no basis for that guess, though. Just seems like a good overall story arc to have.)

I’m not a dresser-upper and jogging in costume would be too much.
I love that you LOVE Cinder. It was a delight.

Sporting Wood made me want to spew my coffee…you find the funniest shit.

The boyfriend got a lot of comments on his outfit. lol! I wore regular running clothes and left it at that.

Oh, Amy. If you think I find funny shit, just wait until TOMORROW on Kristilyn’s After Dark blog. Well, Kelly found the funny shit, but I ran with it.

I’m reading Dearly, Departed now too! So far it’s just a little weird for me. Plus it has zombies which has me really nervous. I don’t like zombies!

WHEEEE!!! I can’t wait to read Unraveling! So glad I could help you with your goals too :D

In response to the google search about Fire and Bitterblue: Why would you want to?? Fire is awesome :D

    • Amanda @ On a Book Bender October 28, 2012 at 3:24 pm

Ha. I *totally* understand wanting to jump (being able to read more about Bitterblue right after Graceling is very tempting), but reading Fire adds so much more dimension to Bitterblue. So much so that I feel like Bitterblue wouldn’t quite have the same effect without it.

5k?! Geez, you go girl! I missed this memo! Christ. AND most importantly – you guys look so cute together! :D

    Also, what Kelly said. ^

OOOOOOOOOOOOH! AMANDA! Have you read Unravelling by Liz Norris? I kind of CRAZY love this book. AND CINDER! YOU LOVED? *Dances* *huggles* *huggle-dances*

    *shakes head*

WAIT. You ran 5k? But… that’s metric. I thought ya’ll did miles? And and and… CONGRATS! ON BOTH THE METRIC SYSTEM AND THE KILOMETRES! I went on a 10km bike ride yesterday, but… well, a lot of it was downhill. Heh.

Also: DARTH VADER’S PENIS?! REALLY? Is this a real thing? :O

    • Amanda @ On a Book Bender October 28, 2012 at 10:28 pm

*clears throat awkwardly* Um, no. Anne wanted Unraveling, I had it on my shelf, and I figured it was a good way to get rid of books on my shelf. Oops. I am intrigued by huggle dances, though.

lol. We DO have miles. Except, apparently when it comes to racing. Usually it’s 5k, 10k, half-marathon, and marathons. I’ve never done more than a 5k. So, 5k and 10k are really the only kilometer distances I actually know.

I don’t know. I have mentioned to Kelly that we would like to see Darth Vader’s penis during the next #PeenSafari.

        Oh, I don’t mind! I was just curious :D
It reminded me a LOT of Fringe. But, eh. I have two copies of it on my shelf (ARC and finished). And seriuosly. Clearing shelves is WIN.

You… confuse me with your mixed up imperialistic-metricism O__o

Mmm… so… by Darth Vader’s peen. Are you talking James L. Jones or Hayden Christiansan [sp?]?

I won the ARC, I think, but I never got around to reading it. I may have to check it out from the library at some point, because I did want to read it enough once to enter into a giveaway for it.

We’re ‘muricans, Sarah. We thrive on mixing things up, then acting like ignorant assholes afterward. I mean, um, so. These 5k races are pretty cool.

The search term wasn’t specific enough. I’ll leave that decision to Peen Princess Kelly.

So many good books, so little time :/

Everytime someone tells me ‘YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!’ or asks if I want to borrow something I panic O__O

Heh. Your strange ethnicity amuses me.

THAT IS THE TRUTH. There needs to be more time so we can READ ALL THE BOOKS.

              Americans. >.<

When I studied abroad in Germany, my German teacher (or, my German German teacher) said that until she taught us (a few Americans) she’d had a…not so great opinion about us. =/

OMG. YOUR GERMAN GERMAN TEACHER WAS RACIST O__o

I get this feeling that racism directed at Americans is the only kind that you can get away with :P

I’m going to preface this comment by saying that I think prejudice and racism happens in every county, and the US is not alone.

I do, however, think that either Americans are overly racist and resistant to the “other” (i.e., not white, Christian, middle class) or that it’s just more “obvious”, and that some of our “bad name” is totally deserved. Perhaps because American culture is so pervasive, it’s more noticeable. Well, and because many Americans are all, “If they’re in my county, they should speak English” and then they travel to other countries without bothering to learn the language because they expect everyone to speak English. So, like I said. Some people earn that perception.

I don’t really blame my German German teacher for thinking what she did.

LOL – that made me laugh. My son runs cross country and track, but in the off seasons, he likes to do all the 5ks around here just to collect the shirts!

There’s a whole lotta flailing going on :)

I really do love the shirts. Not sure why. It’s a visible reminder of my accomplishment, maybe. And I just love racing. (Even though I’m slow and not really racing. I think it’s the competitive atmosphere.)

      Ha. Yes. I did flail a lot, didn’t I? Odd, that. ;)

Yay for your 5K! I used to like running, but I think I was the same as you. I needed MAJOR motivation to do it. And I always buggered up my knee and hip running, so it wasn’t so much fun afterwards. But good for you!

Your reading slump makes me sad! Though, I read Dearly, Departed and wasn’t the biggest fan. I recommend Easy by Tammara Webber or Backstage Pass by Olivia Cunning … both are great!

YAY for Isla! I can’t wait to read that one!

    Uh … “darth vader’s penis”? I don’t wanna know …
