Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and I shamelessly plug each other, share the fantastic posts, giveaways, or whatever else we’ve found and loved by other awesome bloggers (or authors!) during the week, and talk about the books we plan on reading in the coming week.
On a Book Bender Recap
- Joint Review with Kelly: Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews (8) — MOAR Ilona Andrews and MOAR ROMAN!
- Top Off Tuesday — In Appreciation
- Review: Insurgent by Veronica Roth (7) — I am SO CONFLICTED about Insurgent.
- Bloggiesta: Fall 2012 Sign Up and Goals — I’ll also be hosting a challenge!
- Joint Review with Smash: Alien Proliferation by Gini Koch (7) — A little crazy, but still fun.
- On Reading the Paranormal: Nina Versus the Mummy and The Alien King and I (I know, these weren’t technically here. But it’s close enough.)
Meanwhile, in Amanda’s World
- This tweet was retweeted by Amanda Hocking. I’m FAMOUS! Also, it’s a good grammar trick. Now if only I could find a way to turn retweets and satisfied Twitter followers into clients.
- I read a lot of books this week, but I only reviewed one for my blog. The rest are on Goodreads, so I decided to create a non-blog-review shelf. You can find all my reviews there. I’m too lazy to add all my individual reviews in my Goodreads Stats section.
- I found out that Andrea Cremer is coming to Minnesota on 9/17 for a signing event. I’m thinking about going. But I should probably also read one of her books before I go. Because… yeah…
- This week I worked on a post about Twitter peeves (in the form of a snarky post called “How Not to Make Twitter Friends”) and a post about common grammar mistakes made by book bloggers. You’ll see those later this month. Next week the giraffe shifters and I are stalking someone new for the month.
- I got my hair colored. But I only have the creepy Amanda picture to show for it.
Around the Book Blogging Community
- Bloggiesta sign up is OPEN! Bloggiesta mini-challenge hosts were also contacted this week, and YES, I will be hosting a challenge this time.
- Maureen Johnson gives some advice about publishing and getting reviews. Her advice about how to present yourself online is applicable to both bloggers and businesses.
- April (Good Books and Wine) reminds us that book blogging is not a competition.
- May (Smexy Books) talks about the traits she looks for in a heroine. (And I completely and totally agree.)
- Jamie (Perpetual Page Turner) asks what you do in the car if you get carsick from reading. (I listen to an audiobook. I will probably never be able to read in a car without getting sick.)
- Small (Small Review) discusses when we should post a review for a book. I like her idea of waiting until the book is published so that when you get that “I MUST GET THIS BOOK NOW!” feeling, you can.
Search Terms
good comments about the book of monkeewrench by p.j tracy — Heaven forbid we should say anything bad.
a faint cold fear what does the ending mean — That the book is over and you should read the next one.
i am ,better than my upbringing — Yes, you are. We all have the power to rise above our roots.
sexy man cry — And this means…? You want to see a man, who is sexy, cry? Or is there some type of cry that women do when they see a sexy man that I’m missing out on?

Unbreaking the Shelves Progress
Uh… you would think that I made good progress with this challenge considering how many books I read, but you’d be WRONG. My own-must-read shelf stayed steady because I bought a couple books (which replaced the two books I finished from that shelf this week). But my pending shelf (I added a pending shelf goal this week) went from the low 30s to 40. Um. Oops?
Earlier this week, I did go through my Kindle and try to put my freebies into some semblance of order. It actually felt really good to clean up my Kindle. I don’t really have a lot of freebies–I’ve been pretty picky about them–so it was less about deleting ones I wasn’t going to read, and more about getting them in one collection where I can easily find them.

Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal September 9, 2012 at 8:36 am
You read many books this week. I like it! I finished Girl of Nightmares last night while watching 2 Headed Shark Attack. That was an interesting combo.
I like that my blog is “close enough” to your blog to be considered part of OaBB. Lol! LOVE IT! *dances across you blog*
It’s a new week! What sort of shenanigans are we going to get into?
Amanda @ On a Book Bender September 9, 2012 at 9:58 am
I didn’t read at all yesterday. I need to learn to pace myself.
Heh. Well, we do share a brain. And I stalk around your blog like I stalk around mine. :)
Kristilyn (Reading in Winter) September 9, 2012 at 9:29 am
A non-blog review shelf, huh?
*wonders how I can copy this without copying it*
*decides to drink coffee instead*
There’s quite a big book signing coming here, with something like 7 authors. I’ve only read books by 3 of them. I figured I’d read the other authors’ stuff, but now my time is up. Oh well.
I don’t get carsick while reading in the car, but I do like listening to audiobooks in the car. Mainly because it’s hard to drive and read a book at the same time. What I do get sick of is trying to read when hubs is driving and he tries to talk to me. Ha! OK, I like talking to him, too, but sometimes the book is tooo good to put down!
Way to go in the opposite direction for Unbreaking the Shelves! Though, if there was a section in there about reading books you have out from the library, I’d be failing miserably. I haven’t BOUGHT a book in a few weeks, but I did manage to get 12 or so out from the library. Which means not a lot of reading of my OWN books.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender September 9, 2012 at 10:01 am
lol. You’re welcome to copy it!
Well, the sad thing is that I’ve been to a signing with Andrea Cremer before (I actually won Nightshade at that event), and I *still* haven’t read any of her books. I feel like if I go to a second signing with her, I should read one of her books. Maybe. Because that would be nice of me.
I went a little crazy with the freebies this week. I’d say I’m sorry, but I’m not really that sorry.
Ruby September 9, 2012 at 10:52 am
Yay! Your I vs. Me advice is exactly what I tell my students. Then they stare at me blankly. As in, “Did you really think I cared about grammar like, at all?”
I’m sooo looking forward to you “How Not to Make Twitter Friends” post because I know it’s going to make me laugh and laugh. ALSO, I’m biting my nails about those common grammar mistakes. I know I make them, I’m just nervous about seeing what they are. Is lie vs. lay in there?
Can’t recommend Andrea Cremer. I was on the wrong side of her love triangle. Plus, you hate love triangles. On the other hand, it’s a book signing! By a published author! How can you not go?
Amanda @ On a Book Bender September 9, 2012 at 11:32 am
Lie/lay is an issue that I refuse to touch on this blog. It’s too complicated and not worth it.
I think part of the reason I’ve put off reading Nightshade is the love triangle. I’ve already been to a signing with Andrea Cremer, so I feel like it’s necessary that I at least read one of her books before going to see her again.
Ruby September 9, 2012 at 12:17 pm
Ah, then I’m guessing the signing is for Rift? I’ve been wondering about her new series. I didn’t think that A.C. was a bad writer, but my experience with the Nightshade books makes me wary to try anything else she’s written.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender September 9, 2012 at 12:18 pm
Yes. The Nightshade series is over. This one is all about Rift.
Mariana September 9, 2012 at 11:07 am
I understand your problem with Unbreaking the Shelves. I wan’t too good about it thi week, but only because I added some books.
I have Andrea Cremer in my reading list too, the covers are good, but I never got the vibe for the book.
*crazy, right*
Maybe I’ll wait for your reaction on it.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender September 9, 2012 at 11:34 am
Well, the nice thing about Unbreaking the Shelves is that there’s no real penalty for adding books (I mean, other than not seeing your TBR count go down). Because trust me, I’ve done that, too.
Maybe I’ll read Nightshade this coming week. If I do, I’ll be sure to have something in my GR stats section next week. :)
Smash Attack September 9, 2012 at 11:36 am
Andrea Cremer! WIN! Jealous! Also, you have that pretty picture showing the purple lowlights!! I love that picture. It’s so scrapable. heh. Maybe I will scrap it and send it to you.
I need to get on Unbreaking the Shevles. Hopefully today.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender September 9, 2012 at 11:39 am
lol, yes. I took that picture last night while I was at the boyfriend’s. If you scrap it and send it to me, I will love you [even more] forever. ;)
I will be here if you need support or a cheerleader. The organization part of Unbreaking the Shelves is kind of daunting, but you’ll feel better for it in the end! I promise!
Smash Attack September 9, 2012 at 11:41 am
Where do you suggest I start? That is where all my anxiety is coming from. He
Amanda @ On a Book Bender September 9, 2012 at 11:47 am
What are all the things you want to do? Are you looking to organize your bookshelves? Mess with your GR shelves? Let me know! You can also email me if that works easier.
Kristin @myparahangover September 9, 2012 at 11:50 am
I need to unbreak my shelves – you guys are so freakin’ organized in your organization!! I HAVE got to go through my Kindle and find all the books I bought for free/cheap that I know aren’t even in Goodreads so I’m completely missing them!!! Which reminds me of your Bloggiesta goal of going through your Google Reader and cleaning it up. That is a fabulous goal!
I’m dreading/looking forward to your snark about twitter… uh, oh
Amanda @ On a Book Bender September 9, 2012 at 12:04 pm
I try to put all my Kindle freebies in GR right away… or I keep the purchase confirmation email in my inbox until I add the book to my GR shelves so I don’t ever forget to add a book.
Heh. Any time I can make people simultaneously dread and look forward to something, I know I must be doing something right. ;)
Amy @ bookgoonie September 9, 2012 at 11:58 am
*hides under bed* grammar! I’m sure I’ve scored a top spot on the “what not to do Grammar-wise” list.
Way to go on the reading front. Glad to see you back in the saddle again.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender September 9, 2012 at 12:05 pm
Unfortunately, I’ve been spending more time reading freebies than books to review for my blog, so I’m actually a little behind in scheduling reviews. lol. Oops?
Hannah @ Once Upon A Time September 9, 2012 at 5:52 pm
Looking forward to your Twitter peeves post! This is where a lot of people differ on opinions and it’s always interesting to see what pisses different people off… yeah I’m weird.
Ooh what colour?!
