Today is my birthday, and I thought it would be fun to answer questions you had about me. The only thing that surprises me about these questions is that NO ONE mentioned giraffe shifters.
From Amy @ bookgooine:
1. Do you like your polish to match between your toes and fingers OR not?
It depends what you mean by match. Does it need to be the same color? No! But I don’t want colors that clash.
2. What do you drink? Red wine? Vodka? Not picky?
I don’t drink beer. That is really my only limitation. If let to my own devices, I’ll choose flavored vodka or white wine.
3. What is your favorite book of all time? Why?
Surprisingly enough, I don’t have one. I have books that have affected or changed me (e.g., The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand) but I wouldn’t qualify them as my FAVORITE OF ALL TIME.
4. Are you doing what you want with your degree? If not what?
Um. Yes and no. What I really want to do is pursue my editing business.
5. What is a MUST in a boyfriend? Deal breaker?
Patience for putting up with me. Luckily, the boyfriend is extremely laid-back and tends to take all my rantings and worries in stride, and ends up balancing me out. It’s rather easy for me to get worked up about little or asinine things, and he is able to ground me when I get that way.
6. Boxers or briefs? Or commando? In your dudes, not you.
Boxers. Commando seems a little dangerous if he’s wearing jeans. Protect the peen! But athletic shorts? Commando.
7. Favorite para-urban fantasy smexy series of all time?
Right now I would have to say Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews.
8. If you are a tree, what kind of tree would you be? And if you fell in the woods, would we hear you?
I’d be a Bristlecone pine. And if I fell in the woods, you would hear me because I would scream bloody fucking tree murder.
9. What is the best lake in Minnesota?
Boot Lake. When I was younger, my family and I used to vacation at a resort called Fun ta Boot and it was quiet, peaceful, and just plain awesome. Some of my fondest summer memories are at that lake. I haven’t been back there in years, though, so I don’t know how much it’s changed.
10. First kiss…was it worthy of today’s YA novels? Or maybe a funny book?
No. My first kiss was awkward and is not an experience worth recounting.
11. Do smexy books positively or negatively impact your real life expections? “Well honey that was like a 10 whacker. Here read this book and we’ll get that handicap down.”
Heh. How should I phrase this? Smexy books put me in a smexy mood. If said smexy mood is satisfied, I’m a happy woman.
From Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal (aka: Rehv’s plaything) / Kelly, proud drinker of over-creamed coffee:
12. Who’s your favorite literary vampire or group of vampires? *cough*If you say Rehvenge, I WILL SHANK YOU*cough*
Hmm. Good question. I don’t know. (don’t worry, it’s not Rehvenge) I think I would have to say Jeaniene Frost’s vampires, just because the Night Huntress series was the one that got me to read paranormal books.
13. How much coffee do you drink in a day? How do you drink it? Black, creamed to hell and back?
Depends on the day. Anywhere from one to three cups. I average two cups. I drink mine with half and half. Always. Well, always with good coffee (yes, I’m a coffee snob). The cheap stuff I can drink black.
14. If you had to choose between giving up coffee or giving up reading, which way would you lean?
Coffee. I could easily get caffeine another way. At this point, coffee is a ritual. I could easily substitute, say…. tea for coffee and survive. AS LONG AS I COULD READ ALL I WANTED.
15. What’s one genre you wish you read more often?
Mysteries. It’s a genre that I have ALWAYS loved, but in the past year and a half, I’ve been pulled toward a lot of the paranormal books.
From Hannah x:
16. Will you marry me?
Thank you for asking, but no. Sorry. If I get married, it would have to be with the boyfriend.
From Anonymous:
17. Give me your top 5 “not romance” authors?
This is tough! Most of what I read involves some type of romance, which I never really realized until I tried to answer this question. But, here goes (in no particular order):
1. Kevin Hearne
2. Karin Slaughter
3. Gayle Forman
4. Kristin Cashore
5. Ann Aguirre
From Ruby:
18. Where have you traveled? I know you’ve been to Prague, but that’s it.
I studied abroad in Germany for about four months in 2007. It was during that time I took a weekend trip to Prague. I was in Germany, and though I didn’t get to travel much due to school, I did get to go to Munich, Nuremberg, Dachau, and Salzburg (Austria). I have been to Canada (Thunder Bay area) though I was so young that I don’t remember much. I’ve also been to a few US states. I’ve flown to Washington, California, and Texas. And I’ve road tripped through Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky.
From Anonymous:
19. Bananas or Kiwi Fruit? XD
Bananas.

Christy @ Love of Books July 25, 2012 at 12:23 am
*snort* Bananas or Kiwis (monkey balls). lol I didn’t ask that, but it’s funny.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMANDA!!!!!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 7:14 am
Thank you, Christy!! :)
M.R. Merrick July 25, 2012 at 12:41 am
This was awesome! A little peak into the life of Bender. I like it!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 7:19 am
The life of Bender is usually pretty dull and uninteresting, but I’m glad you liked this. heh. :)
Hannah @ Once Upon A Time July 25, 2012 at 5:31 am
Happy birthday Amanda!! Even if you did break my heart *sobs loudly*
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 7:20 am
*pets you* I still love you, Hannah.
Amy @ bookgoonie July 25, 2012 at 5:49 am
Happy Birthday. Don’t eat too much rum cake.
Commando in the athletic shorts. Is it because of that Friend’s episode with the guy putting his leg on the coffee table and everyone got a little peak? Lol.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 7:22 am
There’s no such thing as too much rum cake.
It is NOT because of that Friends episode. And that’s all I will say. ;)
Smash Attack July 25, 2012 at 7:00 am
I would scream bloody fucking tree murder too!
Happy Birthday chica!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 7:23 am
Heh. Bloody fucking tree murder was possibly my favorite answer of the bunch.
*huggles*
Mary @ Book Swarm July 25, 2012 at 7:22 am
Happy birthday! I’m with you–no one favorite book but a list of maybe 100 or more. Depends on the genre, my mood, the time I read it! Cheers *raises a glass*
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 7:40 am
Thanks, Mary! *raises glass in salute* *drinks the entire bottle* ;)
Anne July 25, 2012 at 8:05 am
Happy Birthday! I don’t like beer either, but I’ve found that hard cider is a good alternative – I’ve recently discovered Angry Orchard and it is REALLY good =)
Anyway, have a good day! =)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 8:17 am
I love hard cider! There are tons of ciders out there right now, too. And Angry Orchard is a good one.
Felicia July 25, 2012 at 8:31 am
Anonymous asked the best question ever and/or she did not put in her name so she could claim best question either! However I should have (anonymous should have) asked what are you top 5 mystery/thriller writers.
I don’t like beer either but CIDER RULES!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 9:05 am
lol. Some of my favorite mystery series over the years have been:
Kinsey Millhone series by Sue Grafton
V.I. Warshawski series by Sara Paretsky
Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich
I haven’t read much by them lately, which is why I didn’t include them. I also really liked the Keye Street book by Amanda Kyle Williams.
Kristilyn (Reading in Winter) July 25, 2012 at 10:12 am
Great questions and answers! I liked the favourite non-romance books … I like to find romance in EVERYTHING I read. If it’s not there, I’m usually disappointed. I must be prepared ahead of time.
Happy happy happy birthday!!! :)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 11:59 am
I do like romance or having a romantic interest in a book. It’s just not the same without it!
Thank you! :)
Logan July 25, 2012 at 11:46 am
Protect. The. Peen.
You just made my day.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 12:00 pm
It is very important to protect the peen. The other day, the boyfriend’s brother was kicking the boyfriend in the junk. So I said to bf’s brother, “Please don’t do that. I need that for later.”
The reaction to that statement was priceless.
Jenny July 25, 2012 at 3:44 pm
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMANDA!!!! I would sing, but it wouldn’t really come across in typed form. Probably for the best since I can’t carry a tune to save my life. I about fell out of my chair laughing when I got to “protect the peen!”. I just never know what I’m going to read here on your blog, and I have to say I love that about you:)
Happy, happy, happy birthday my friend. Hope the peen is in working order for you tonight ;-)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 4:28 pm
Thank you, Jenny!
Protecting the peen is vital to having a satisfying relationship, if you know what I mean. :)
Rummanah July 25, 2012 at 10:32 pm
Wishing you a very happy birthday, Amanda!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 25, 2012 at 11:58 pm
Thanks, Rummanah! :)
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal July 26, 2012 at 6:46 pm
I’m so glad that Rehvenge is safe from your grabby hands. He’s mine, Amanda. MINE!
I hope you had a FANTABULOUS birthday with lots of gratuitous #NakedWerewolves!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 26, 2012 at 8:23 pm
Wait. I have grabby hands? I think YOU are the one who has grabby hands.
Grabby hander!
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal July 26, 2012 at 9:15 pm
Where Rehvenge is concerned, I have grabby, stroke-y, petting hands. *pets him* I am not ashamed of the way I inappropriately grope Rehv.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 26, 2012 at 9:16 pm
You’re also bitey. But not with your hands.
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal July 26, 2012 at 9:28 pm
I tried biting with my hands once. It did not turn out well. Now I just bite with my teeth.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 26, 2012 at 9:29 pm
I bet there are other things you could try biting with.
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal July 26, 2012 at 9:36 pm
*narrows eyes at you*
Such as?
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 26, 2012 at 9:37 pm
Rhymes with runt?
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal July 26, 2012 at 9:44 pm
Sounds like pushy?
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 26, 2012 at 9:45 pm
Uh-huh. I think you’ve got it. And with the right…encouragement, I think it can do a little biting.
Ruby July 29, 2012 at 11:59 am
Happy Birthday! I’m so sorry I’m late to the party. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 29, 2012 at 5:53 pm
Thank you, Ruby.
Alexa August 2, 2012 at 1:58 pm
That was nice to learn a little more about you. I’m glad that your boyfriend helps to balance you out. Most of the time people are so worried about being similar to their partner that they forget that differences can really help.
Glad you would rather give up on coffee instead of reading and your lovely blog followers! :)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender August 2, 2012 at 3:52 pm
The boyfriend and I are similar enough to make it work. Having everything in common would be boring as hell. But I think we balance each other out (I make him think and plan), so it’s all good.
Sarah (saz101) August 7, 2012 at 9:27 pm
“3. What is your favorite book of all time? Why?”
SAME. I seriously can’t decide. I’d say a top ten, but even then, they change. Constantly.
PROTECT THE PEEN.
AND YES TO BONES AND CAT AND THE CREW.
AND FIRST KISSES BEING AWFUL.
AND… AND AND…
I love you :D
Amanda @ On a Book Bender August 8, 2012 at 10:06 am
I’m glad I’m not the only one who can’t decide on a favorite book.
Also, I love you, too! *huggles*
