Meanwhile, in Amanda’s World
- It was a weird week. I ended my semester, but because I had a day off on Wednesday, I got all confused about what day it was. I’m still not quite sure, to be honest.
- Doin’ It Dirty was on Friday, and it was a BLAST. I ended up not being on Twitter as much as I thought I would, but I made up for it with lots of reading. And painting my nails.
- I’m now committed to working on building my business through the end of the year. Cross your fingers for me!
- My birthday is on Wednesday! I have plans to enjoy it.
Around the Book Blogging Community
The end of the semester craziness (combined with the continued drama in the blogosphere) has led me to step back from blogging this week, which is why this section is pitiful.
- Sarah (saz101) and Becca from Reading Wishes will be hosting Author Appreciation August. Check out the details, and help spread the word.
- Rachel from Fiktshun talks about working with a blog design professional on the Bloggers Corner blog.
- This week’s free audiobook downloads from Audiobook Sync are Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare and Cleopatra’s Moon by Vicky Alvear Shecter.
- Sarah (saz101) wrote about why she loves the book blogging community.

VIAGRA FOR THE BRAIN? I CAN HAS PLEASE?
Hehhehehe, for some reason I now have ‘BOOOOIIING!’ reverberating through my brain :P
Also: YOU HAS THE HUNT? I am really really REALLY interested to see what you think of it. I thought it was a brilliant book but… I KNOW it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, and Gene isn’t always the easiest character to *connect* with. Also: HUNTER’S PREY. GETITGETITGETIT.
Seriously, it’s as camp as it sounds, and it’s like… western-historical-steampunk-paranormal, but it’s HOT, and… just, you know how sometimes you just want entertainment value? THAT :D
And thank you for the shout-out! Both of them! ♥
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 9:21 am
lol, Jess @ Gone with the Words coined the phrase that books are viagra for the brain. lolol.
YES. I really loved Wilder’s Mate, and figured that Hunter’s Prey is more of the same delicious goodness.
Sarah (saz101) July 22, 2012 at 8:54 pm
I think I liked Wilder’s Mate a little more, but I seriously enjoyed it :D
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 8:55 pm
I figure if there’s a lot of smex, I’ll like it. 0=)
Sarah (saz101) July 22, 2012 at 8:58 pm
OH YES. And lots of angst. And lots of ‘I CAN’T HAVE HER/HIM. HE/SHE DOESN’T WANT ME. I DON’T DESERVER THEM.’
Talking of LOTS OF SMEX. Have you read Once Burned, yet? *runs off to stalk your Goodreads*
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 8:58 pm
I am easy to please. :)
Sarah (saz101) July 22, 2012 at 9:00 pm
Ha! Me too. Storyline? Great characters? PFFT! SMEXINESS YES THNX!
Hey, at least I’m honest about why I read romance :P
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 9:01 pm
Have you read the Last Call series by Moira Rogers? They’re novellas all about one night of awesome smex.
Sarah (saz101) July 22, 2012 at 9:03 pm
I have read NO Moira Rogers. Seriously, I think I’m still pretty new to it. I LOVE Nalini Singh, Frost, and historicals I adore Julia Quinn and think Loretta Chase and Courtney Milan are fantastic, but honestly, I don’t think I’ve read much more than that… mmm… Lorelei James? I’ll go check MG out :D
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 9:04 pm
Last Call (I read Kamikaze) is all about SMEX!
Sarah (saz101) July 22, 2012 at 9:03 pm
Heh. I’m in your comments, hijacking your thread :P
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 9:04 pm
*huggles you*
Sarah (saz101) July 22, 2012 at 9:05 pm
*hugs back* you know I’m never leaving, now >:D
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 9:06 pm
*clings*
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal July 22, 2012 at 9:33 am
I do not know your search term book but I would TOTALLY read it.
I’m so happy you’ve discovered the joys of Moira Rogers’ Bloodhounds. Those boys will rock your panties straight off! Rawr!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 10:12 am
Yes, indeedy. And Hunter’s introduction in Wilder’s Mate makes me very very curious about his story!
Smash Attack July 22, 2012 at 11:02 am
VIAGRA FOR BRAINS FTW! Love it.
I’m listening to The Hunt on audio. It’s an odd book. I still listen but I’m on the fence if I like it b/c of some things that don’t add up for me.
I hope you enjoy your birthday. :)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 11:56 am
I’m really curious about The Hunt because I’ve heard THINGS. The THINGS make me want to read it myself, to see where I fall on the THINGS.
I get two days of birthday celebration this week, so that will be fun! :)
Ashley Montgomery July 22, 2012 at 12:57 pm
Lola and the Boy Next Door sounds like a great read. Happy reading!
Ashley @ Dr. Pepper Diva
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 1:44 pm
Lola and the Boy Next Door WAS a great read! Thanks! :)
Hannah @ Once Upon A Time July 22, 2012 at 1:06 pm
“elloras cave whats the name of the book where the couple is on an airplane and it crashes and they are the only two survivors on an island — o.O That actually sounds like a Kelly book. If anyone knows, she would!”
That actually sounds like ‘On The Island’?
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 1:44 pm
Yes, but On the Island isn’t published by Ellora’s Cave. It’s possible that one of my Top Off Tuesday posts had a synopsis like that.
Hannah @ Once Upon A Time July 22, 2012 at 1:52 pm
Ahh didn’t know it was a publishing house. :)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 1:59 pm
You don’t know about Ellora’s Cave??? It’s Top Off Tuesday paradise!!!
Hannah @ Once Upon A Time July 22, 2012 at 2:02 pm
Of course not, I’m not into erotic fiction! I know Harlequin and the UK version, Mills & Boon but that’s pretty much it.. and I don’t know of the decent erotic fiction publishing houses.. which explains why I’m not into it.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 2:03 pm
Usually whenever I throw random or weird book covers up on Twitter, those come from Ellora’s Cave. Next time you need a laugh, go to Ellora’s Cave!
Ruby July 22, 2012 at 4:06 pm
YA series? Does this mean the Darkest Powers books?
Yeah, you definitely need to read The Hunt. It’s full of THINGS, as you said.
Kelly recommended Moira Rogers to me, but I haven’t read her yet. I want to read Crux, which is the beginning of a series that has plenty of #NakedWerewolves. Again, according to Kelly.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 6:06 pm
Or Insurgent or Morganville Vampires or Supernaturally, or Soul Screamers or Vampire Academy.
I loved the Moira Rogers books I read, but if I recall correctly, they use words you’re not very fond of. There were plenty of #NakedWerewolves in the books that I read.
Kristilyn (Reading in Winter) July 22, 2012 at 8:47 pm
I’m quite confused. How on earth did you manage to participate in a readathon AND paint your nails? It’s puzzling!
I love the “viagra for the brain” search … so true!
And happy early birthday!! :) Live it up, baby!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 22, 2012 at 8:50 pm
I gots the skillz, yo. Actually, I needed a break, and then all my books were on my Kindle, so it was easy/safe to read while my nails were drying.
Thank you! :)
Felicia July 23, 2012 at 9:19 am
I am not normally here on the weekend but I did want to say good luck getting the business launched! I am super excited for you :)
GO GIRL GO!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 23, 2012 at 9:21 am
Thanks, Felicia! Your support means a lot! <3
Angelya July 23, 2012 at 6:46 pm
Have a happy birthday! and best of luck with your business-building :)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 23, 2012 at 9:28 pm
Thank you so much, Angelya! <3
Amy @bookgoonie July 24, 2012 at 11:04 am
I’m going to work on some YA too. Give my libido/loins a little rest. Holy moly!
I was going to work on YA Series, but sadly most of those are library books. I’ve bought too many books this month. Operation TBR means I need to get busy on some books I own.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 24, 2012 at 11:51 am
Heh. Yes. They sure got a workout.
Get to it, Amy!
