Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and I shamelessly plug each other, share the fantastic posts, giveaways, or whatever else we’ve found and loved by other awesome bloggers (or authors!) during the week, and talk about the books we plan on reading in the coming week.
Announcement
For my birthday next month, I have decided to steal Ruby’s idea and let you ask questions about me. On my birthday (July 25th), I will answer ALL YOUR QUESTIONS! They can be funny, serious, weird, whatever. You can ask them by clicking on the button in my sidebar, or just going directly to the Google form from this link.
On a Book Bender Recap
- Kelly Reviews: Blue Moon by Alyson Noel (6) – I want to stabbity stab Roman.
- Top Off Tuesday — Is that a bunch in the fabric, or…?
- Review: Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore (8) – Didn’t want to leave this world.
- Discussion Post: The Power of Language
Meanwhile, in Amanda’s World
- I made myself a Twitter background! I am proud of it, but not as proud of it as I am my business Twitter background.
- Been working furiously on ideas for my business. I am super excited! And I have been making strides in making my business website easier to navigate and see what my services are. Like my Services page!
- It was another crappy week. I’ve spent less time on the Internet because I have been very negative and whiny and no one wants to see that plastered all over Twitter and this blog. I’m looking forward to having a day off next week. Or, you know, the end of the semester. It can’t get here soon enough. Not even reading cheers me up.
Around the Book Blogging Community
- Wicked Lil Pixie rants about condoms in romance. This is something that I always like to note in books. Do they or don’t they? Honestly, I think BC needs to be addressed in any book that involves sex.
- The Book Monsters started a new meme based on an old idea about sharing the old blogs you love, and the new blogs you’ve found.
- Alissa (The Grammarian’s Reviews) talks about the importance of titles. SO TRUE!
- BB thinks too hard about author review requests. I loved this one because I’ve got a post on the same topic going up next week.
- Thea Harrison announced that she’s signed a contract for the 4th Elder Races novella called Hunter’s Season.
- Sarah (saz101) and Lauren (Lauren’s Loquacious Literature) are hosting Potterthon starting TODAY.
- Anne (Creativity’s Corner) and Alissa (The Grammarian’s Reviews) introduced The Book Sessions. It is an event that is a cross between a read-along and a book club. Check it out!
Search Terms
you give men a bad name quotes — Tsk tsk.
sexy man demon — I love how frequently I get this search term. Sexy man demons are in hot demand.
“completed mine” 101 1001 list — I did NOT complete mine. But I did meet Tara, so that is good enough for me.
english teachers have the right to make grammar rules — Uh… not really. We don’t make the rules, we enforce them. Seriously.
http:// www.free.vempayrs sex.com — Come on now. Why do I get so many hits for this?
sad bookshelves — What are you saying about my bookshelves, exactly? *suspicious look*
silly deer — Heh. This one landed on my giraffe shifter post. Makes sense, right?
amanda that girl in the corset — I am not wearing a corset. You must be looking for another Amanda.
gets very exited then loose interest job — Loose interest is the opposite of tight interest, I suppose? What is tight interest? Or loose interest? I’m imagining interest as a person who is wearing very loose pants. In fact, they’re so loose he’s going to lose them soon.
Goodreads Stats
Read in 2012 (63)
- Sins of the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon (6) — AS, AS read
- Is it just me or is it easy to burn out on these books if they’re read back to back? My review on GR.
- Where She Went by Gayle Forman (8) – AS, AS read
- INTENSE! Will review on the blog on August 1st.
- Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost (8)
- I got caught up in the hype with this one and was expecting something greater than what I got. Still liked it, though! And I even went off my AS, AS list to read it.
- Criminal by Karin Slaughter– another AS, AS read, er…. listen
- Looooooooove this. In fact, it’s one of those that I want to go fast because I want to know what happens, but want it to go slowly at the same time so it doesn’t end.
Own-Must-Read (113)
- Grace Among Thieves by Julie Hyzy
- Got this one from a publicist awhile ago. Added it for the Profiling Mysteries event in August.
- Cinder by Marissa Meyer– signed
- Kelly was kind enough to get my copy signed for me. Yay!
- Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo– signed
- I am SERIOUSLY looking forward to this book.
- Once Burned by Jeanine Frost
- Yes, I totally got and read this book within the same week.
Free Ebooks (29 unread)
- Six Moon Summer, All Hallows’ Moon, and Long Night Moon by S.M Reine
- Kelly told me to download the first one, then informed me I should get all three while they were still free. So I did.
- Dane by Liliana Hart
- Thanks to Kelly’s recommendation (again), I picked this up for #DoinItDirty later this month.
Amazon Wishlist (56)
*Links to books in this section will be to Amazon and with my Amazon associates ID — except the link to my wishlist itself.
- Let’s Pretend This Never Happened (Audiobook) by Jenny Lawson
- I already had the hardcover of this book on my wishlist, but I think the audiobook would be EVEN BETTER!
- Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi
- The recent cover reveals prompted me to add these to my wishlist.
- Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi
- Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues by Diana Rowland
- I loved the first book in the series, and can’t wait to read the second!

Oh, I hate those crappy weeks. Sometimes, I feel so completely unsocial and everyone/everything just pisses me off. Luckily, those weeks do go away. Hope whatever’s making you cranky passes and you’re back to your happy self again soon! Good luck!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 11:29 am
Unfortunately, I think I may be in a crabby stage for the next couple weeks — at least until I’m finished with teaching. :( Thanks, though!
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal July 1, 2012 at 9:27 am
You had a lot going on in Goodreads stats land this week. Well done!
*huggles you and heads off to look for more naughty books for the readathon*
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 11:33 am
I know! It was a good week book wise.
So, I just downloaded three of Jodi’s books. I will use them for the naughty readathon!
Amy @ bookgoonie July 1, 2012 at 9:28 am
;( for the crappy week. Hope you get a chance to find your joy over July 4th break. Takes some picture ;)
Great post on tone. I struggle with it myself & I react strongly when it is thrown my direction um provoked. I poor over my word choice…partly for misdirected tone…and with implied meaning that may make sense to me, but leaves others scratching their heads.
Great links. I so wish I had time for a Potter reread or skyping about books. Loved the article on condoms. Agree. Agree. Agree. If there is anything real to take away from romance novels is WRAP that sucker up. There is nothing less romantic than STD or unintended pregnancy. Could so get on pulpit over girls taking charge/responsibility over sex/birth control.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 11:39 am
Thanks, Amy!
I’m glad people related to my post about language. And glad I’m not alone in my sometimes overreaction to things that are said.
Alissa July 1, 2012 at 10:52 am
*hugs* I had a crappy week, too. But we’ll both be free SOON!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 11:40 am
Yes, thank goodness! When is your last day?
Ruby July 1, 2012 at 12:30 pm
I think that the Dark-Hunter books have a definite formula, which is why I didn’t read them back to back. KMM’s Highlander books were the same way. I enjoyed them so long as I put distance between each volume. If I read them next to each other, I’d start noticing too many similarities.
I can’t wait to read your questions and answers. I wonder how many of them will be from Kelly. I suspect 76% of mine were from her.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 2:17 pm
I went nearly a year between reading the D-H books. That was long enough. Every other book is not, though. =/
I’ve gotten 14 questions thus far. Only one is from Kelly.
Smash Attack July 1, 2012 at 12:49 pm
I am always thrilled when BC isaddressed because it rarely happens. I definitely feel it’s important, especially with the young adult books that broach sex.
And I LOVE that Book Monster meme! And um, maybe you should wear a corset…heh
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 2:22 pm
It’s surprising how little it’s addressed in adult books, too. It *should* be though.
A corset seems too… confining. I like to be free, Smash.
Natalie @ Mindful Musings July 1, 2012 at 2:11 pm
If it makes you feel any better, I’ve been cranky all week, and I’m NOT in school and teaching at the moment, so I don’t have that excuse. Lol. But I am getting over being sick and I’m going on a month of time spent living with the family…so that’s enough to make me mood swing like none other. Haha. I love them to death…but more than two weeks straight around them and I start looking for sharp objects. :)
Hugs!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 2:26 pm
Oh, family drives me nutso, too. It is totally a legitimate excuse. Totally! *hugs*
Emily July 1, 2012 at 6:54 pm
OMG my birthday is July 25th too! I hope yours is totally awesome :)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 7:18 pm
Birthday twinsies! Awesome! Hope you have a fabulous birthday! :)
Sarah (saz101) July 1, 2012 at 6:55 pm
““completed mine” 101 1001 list — I did NOT complete mine. But I did meet Tara, so that is good enough for me.”
THIS! I actually started book blogging because of it. I started stalking Tara, which resulted in stalking you, and… :D
Damn… I haven’t read Once Burned yet–I’m still waiting for my copy to arrive, so … *re-adjusts expectations* JF’s last few books haven’t been my faves (still AMONGST my faves, but not the faves for the series).
ALSO: CINDER! ADFHAJDF! I LOVE this book. And I am SO excited to read Shadow and Bone! And thank you for the shout out *hugs*
Also! *MORE HUGS* I hope you have a much much MUCH better this one. I know the feeling oh too well :(
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 7:23 pm
If it weren’t for Tara, I wouldn’t be book blogging either! *huggles you*
I don’t know if you read reviews before you read a book, but if you do, I suggest reading my GR review, and Kelly’s review. Kelly says a lot of the things I felt, but never managed to say. It’s kind of on par with a lot of Jeanine Frost’s latest books, but with a lot of potential.
I am really looking forward to both Cinder and Shadow and Bone!
*hugs* *hugs* *hugs*
Sarah (saz101) July 1, 2012 at 7:33 pm
I TOTALLY read reviews before. I’ll check them out. Actually, I just read yours. I SO get that. I’ll read Kelly’s too :)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 7:37 pm
Awesome. Some people refuse to read reviews before they read the book, so I wasn’t sure. (I read them depending on how soon I’ll get to the book; the sooner I’ll read the book, the less likely I am to read reviews, lol)
Sarah (saz101) July 1, 2012 at 7:38 pm
Yeah, I know a few people like that… I guess there’d be a few people I’d be like that with… I’d prefer to read J.K. Rowling’s new one before reviews… and I think I *AM* swayed by overly negative or positive reviews, but… meh :D
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 7:39 pm
For me it really depends on how much the book is hyped. The more it’s hyped, the less I want to read the book. Because too much hype is a bad thing, in my opinion.
Sarah (saz101) July 1, 2012 at 7:42 pm
AGREED. And I kind of worry that my opinion of the book is going to be my *OWN* opinion of the book?
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 1, 2012 at 7:44 pm
YES! THAT! Exactly. We have an innate ability to parrot what we’ve read (whether we realize it or not), so I definitely DO NOT read reviews from the point I start the book to the time I finish writing my review.
Andrea @ The Busy Bibliophile July 2, 2012 at 9:08 am
Huggles to you, just hang in there until it gets better! <3
Love those search terms – are you wearing a corset yet? Lol
Very nice Twitter backgrounds. I could never do anything so creative, so good for you.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender July 2, 2012 at 9:50 am
Thanks! <3
With the Twitter backgrounds, once the graphics have been made for you (like my blog button and avi, which I did not do), it’s just a matter of positioning them where you want and adding information. :)
