Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and I shamelessly plug each other, share the fantastic posts, giveaways, or whatever else we’ve found and loved by other awesome bloggers (or authors!) during the week, and talk about the books we plan on reading in the coming week.
Announcements
Clock Rewinders no longer has a linky.
Should you choose to continue posting your own CR post, we ask that you focus on what we have always intended CR to be: a place to build community by sharing what happened around the blogosphere and talking about books. It is not a place to show off the books you received, like an IMM replacement. It is not about what you posted during the week. A well-designed CR post will get people OFF your site.
On a Book Bender Recap
- Joint Review with Kelly: Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews – This series continues to get better.
- Top Off Tuesday — Let’s Play Some Games
- Audiobook Review: First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones – It hit all the right notes.
- Midwestern Book Bloggers, Link Up! – Jacinda and I are trying to put together a directory of Midwestern book bloggers and any bookstores and events in the area.
Meanwhile, in Amanda’s World…
- I noticed that a number of people were writing their general comment in a reply to other people rather than using the comment box, so the ever awesome Mandi Kaye moved the comment box to the bottom of the page for me. I hope this will help clear up any future confusion!
- I’m pretty sure this happened last week, but I LAUNCHED MY BUSINESS SITE’S REDESIGN! Go see it!
- I bought some books and then freaked out about how many books I already own.
- Though I was determined not to let BoB burn me out, it did. Massively. It happens every time. I don’t know why I think I can avoid it. I doubt I’ll participate in the next one, though I suppose I will still run it.
On 25 Hour Books
- Dead Until Dark [catch-up] (with spoilers!) – difficult to separate book and TV
- *pokes Tara* Someone owes me a VLOG. You all need to tell Tara (you can tweet her @taraSG) that she has to make a vlog now that she received Bitterblue.
Around the Book Blogging Community
I have to apologize in advance, as my compilation this week is a little thin. Bout of Books has tapped most of my resources this week.
- Missie had a HILARIOUS audiobook mini-review of a couple books that had me giggling. It was also her birthday on Friday. If you haven’t yet, get over there and wish her a happy belated birthday!
- Veronica Roth talks about the third Divergent book (yet untitled) and gives us a release date.
- Michelle Hodkin gave us an extra scene from the next Mara Dyer book. I suggest that you only read it if you’ve read the first Mara book.
- Jeaniene Frost gave us YET ANOTHER excerpt from Once Burned. This is on her Facebook page, and you must like it before you are able to read the excerpt.

Goodreads Stats
Read in 2012 (44)
- Graceling by Kristin Cashore (8)
- Really liked this one! Though it did have me wanting to skip Fire and go straight into Bitterblue for her story.
- Ascension by Felicity Heaton (5/6)
- It was okay.
- Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (10)
- Looooooooooved this book. It made me all gushy and weird in my review. I’ve got Lola on its way to me now.
- On the Edge by Ilona Andrews (8)
- This book just did all the right things for me. I ordered the next two books in the series as soon as I finished this one.
- Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
- I listened to this a bunch last week (maybe about three hours) but I still have more to listen to. I should pick it up again this coming week.
- Fire by Kristin Cashore
- I’m determined to finish this one by the end of the day. If I can, I’ve completed my reading goal for Bout of Books!
Amazon Wishlist
- Still nothing.

Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal May 20, 2012 at 12:29 am
Lol! My around the blogosphere post consists of the Alpha Showdown. I didn’t visit many blogs this week. How sad is that?
Annnnnnnna! So much love for that book! SO MUCH!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender May 20, 2012 at 11:57 am
Not really sad at all. BoB really did a number on our time this week.
Amy @bookgoonie May 20, 2012 at 11:13 am
I’m such a dumbass. I just figured out what the # meant next to the books you’ve read this week.
I haven’t been nearly slutty enough the week. I got around a bit at the beginning of the week. End of the week got me down and held me under.
*sad face* on the BoB burnout.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender May 20, 2012 at 12:00 pm
hahaha! I never explained it, Amy, so it’s okay if you didn’t catch on right away.
The BoB burnout happens every time. It was just especially tough this week with what was going on in my life outside of BoB.
Smash Attack May 20, 2012 at 12:48 pm
I hope you are enjoying FIRE! Let me know when you pick up Bitterblue. :)
Smash Attack May 20, 2012 at 12:48 pm
Oh, and thanks for the Roth link!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender May 20, 2012 at 12:50 pm
*huggles you* That’s what I’m here for!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender May 20, 2012 at 12:50 pm
I am! Well, I’m only about four chapters in, but I am VERY intrigued by all the differences and everything. I think I’ll be glad I didn’t skip straight ahead to Bitterblue.
Angelya May 20, 2012 at 6:32 pm
Uh oh, now I feel terrible for mostly talking about my week on my CR post :( I didn’t read blogs this week though, I was too busy reading for BoB! Must post proper community links next week!
Thanks for all your hard work on BoB Amanda *hugs* I think it’s perfectly normal to get burnt out from something like that, you put so much of yourself into it.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender May 20, 2012 at 6:46 pm
Don’t worry too much. It’s just something to keep in mind when you’re drafting your CR post.
Thanks! I probably over commit myself with BoB, so it’s pretty easy to get burnt out, especially when there are over 200 participants.
Stephanie May 20, 2012 at 6:56 pm
I hope your burnout doesn’t last too long. It can happen so easily. Bout of Books has gotten so big and I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of effort it takes to make sure an event of it’s size goes smoothly. It looks effortless but I know better. :)
Just know that there are a lot of people out there who appreciate what you do and look up to you as a blogger. I know I do!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender May 20, 2012 at 9:58 pm
As much as I hate to go back to work right after Bout of Books, I think it will help to focus on something else for a while.
Thank you for your kind words, Stephanie. After such a rough week, it’s exactly what I needed to hear.
Natalie @ Mindful Musings May 20, 2012 at 8:55 pm
I have never read a Kristin Cashore book. Sad, right? Especially since I’ve owned copies of Graceling and Fire for at least two years.
Sorry to hear you hit burnout with Bout of Books. That sucks. :( And wow! Over 200 participants?!? No wonder!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender May 20, 2012 at 9:59 pm
I went to a Kristin Cashore book signing without ever having read any of her books. Which is worse? ;)
Honestly, I don’t even want to think about how many hours went into planning and running Bout of Books. Wouldn’t surprise me if it hit triple digits.
Mandi Kaye May 21, 2012 at 3:44 pm
I’m definitely feeling some reading burnout this week. It’s been happening for a few weeks.
I’m glad you’re happy with the comment box.
And your business site re-design is fab!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender May 21, 2012 at 5:55 pm
I’ve been experiencing reading burnout on and off for the past few months. Except when I was teaching. Then all I wanted to do was read. Figures.
Thank you! Thank you! You were a big help with my business site, too. :)
Brianna May 22, 2012 at 11:58 am
Giraffe shifters *snorts*
Amanda @ On a Book Bender May 22, 2012 at 4:51 pm
And now there will be giraffe shifters in your inbox! ;)
Alexa May 22, 2012 at 8:21 pm
Lol I always buy more books and then come home to slightly freak out when I look at my massive book shelves and realize that I’m already running out of room since I probably own 800+ books and half of those are unread!
I’m glad you got your new design done on your business site and I’m glad you moved the comment box to the bottom, it helps me to read other people’s comments on the way down to comment. :)
Sorry about your burn out after BOB!
Happy Reading!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender May 22, 2012 at 10:30 pm
I’m freaking out because I don’t have any more shelf space. None! I need my own space! And more bookshelves!
I agree that people are able to see and interact more now that the comment box is at the bottom. Win/Win
:)
Sarah (saz101) May 24, 2012 at 7:35 pm
“I bought some books and then freaked out about how many books I already own.”
THIS.
I freak out from excitement every time a new book arrives in the mail, then freak out from panic when I realise how many books that is O___O
Seriously, I’m about to run out of space, proper, and I just bought a new bookshelf >___<
“the moment you realize your friends are stalkers”
Most of my friends have figured this out by now :D
I love your Clock Rewinders LD
Amanda @ On a Book Bender May 25, 2012 at 8:35 am
Ha. I need to buy real bookshelves. But I don’t have the space for them, sadly. :(
