Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and I shamelessly plug each other, share the fantastic posts, giveaways, or whatever else we’ve found and loved by other awesome bloggers (or authors!) during the week, and talk about the books we plan on reading in the coming week.
On a Book Bender Recap
- Joint Review with Kelly: Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews – Must have more of this series!
- Top Off Tuesday — 2fer
- Joint Review with Kelly: Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews – Seriously loving the Kate Daniels series.
- Ruby’s Birthday Book Giveaway Hop
- Who Am I Stalking [7] – Hannah @ Once Upon a Time
Meanwhile, in Amanda’s World
- I installed a Feedburner plugin that redirects all my WP feeds to my Feedburner feed. The result? My numbers jumped from the mid-70s to close to 200. I had no idea I had so many readers. *huggles every single one of you* *except Tara* *hugs Tara*
- It feels like I’ve been pretty absent from the blogosphere this week. I’m caught somewhere between utter exhaustion and excitement that the semester is almost over. I’m assuming next week will be more of the same.
- I’ve also been furiously (or not so furiously as the case may be) working on an over haul of my business website. I’m really excited about it, and looking forward to getting back into editing once the semester dies down.
- Audiobooks are my new best friend. Even though I keep falling more and more behind in my reading, I’ve actually come to look forward to my commute now. Considering I spent 10 hours in the car per week commuting, this is probably a good thing. As long as I remember to charge my mp3 player.
- Note to self: unless you want to be inundated with multiple tweets asking you what book you’re reading, always ALWAYS mention the name of the book you’re reading if you’re tweeting about your reactions.
Around the Book Blogging Community
- Jeaniene Frost announces that her ebooks will now be sold for $5.99. She also talks a little bit about the process of getting ebook prices changed. It’s not as easy as one may think.
- Alissa of The Grammarian’s Reviews fame writes about “good” and “bad” writing, and what all this means. I think she makes some really valid points.
- Wicked Lil Pixie wrote a Book Blogger’s Guide to Etiquette. I found her post to be extremely accurate and quite timely, since Jacinda and I had recently had a conversation about treating blogging professionally. I know that blogging is a hobby. But I also believe that people respect professionalism. Being professional doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun. Here’s Merriam Webster’s definition:
exhibiting a courteous, conscientious, and generally businesslike manner in the workplace
Put “blogosphere” in place of “workplace” and you’ve got the gist of it.
- And rather than ending on a serious note, let’s end on a fun, though potentially scarring, note. Without further ado, I give you Jenny’s Cover Critique of the week, where the bear gets it from behind*.

Books I Received
I was originally going to make a vlog for this, but it turns out I sounded as tired as I felt. And no one wants to be tortured with that.

All shirtless men are given a safe word ;)
Rock awesome on the reader # jump.
<3 Jeaniene Frost. Now I'm craving some Cat & Bones. Good thing I'm not caught up in the series.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 15, 2012 at 9:14 am
lol. Yes. Safe words are very important.
Mary @ Book Swarm April 15, 2012 at 8:40 am
I don’t know…some of those cover shot boys look a little tortured (blue balls, perhaps?). Sounds like a semi-legit search! heh.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 15, 2012 at 9:15 am
*snickers* Blue balls. Reminds me of a cover I once found.
Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal April 15, 2012 at 9:29 am
The lion’s loins were given a workout this week. For sure!
*huggles you*
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 15, 2012 at 9:32 am
Well, you know when it comes to loins we’re pretty good at working them out.
Smash Attack April 15, 2012 at 10:16 am
GREAT news on Jeaniene Frost! Woot!
The semester is almost over. Hang in there!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 15, 2012 at 12:09 pm
I just have to survive this one week, then classes are over. The week after is administrative stuff. I CAN DO THIS!
Alissa April 15, 2012 at 12:22 pm
Hey, that’s me! Thanks for the mention. <3
Also, that blogging etiquette post is awesome and should be linked all over the place.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 15, 2012 at 1:23 pm
It’s sad that we even have to talk about blogging etiquette, but yes. It should.
Ruby April 15, 2012 at 12:32 pm
I can’t wait until your semester is over. I feel like I’ve hardly “seen” you at all! Are you going to be working this summer? If so, when will the summer term start?
I’m curious to see what’s going to happen with the ebook pricing and Amazon, considering the court case that was in the news this week. I need to educate myself about it…maybe Jeaniene Frost’s post is a place to start?
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 15, 2012 at 1:23 pm
I’ll be working this summer. Whether it’s teaching or something else remains to be seen.
Ruby April 15, 2012 at 1:27 pm
And by something else, you mean…?
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 15, 2012 at 1:28 pm
I own an editing business, Ruby.
Ruby April 15, 2012 at 1:47 pm
Oh, I thought you were always doing that. And I thought you meant you would be doing something in addition to your editing business. I didn’t forget you had one!
Ruby April 15, 2012 at 1:03 pm
Just saw your footnote. Thanks for the clarification. *hides face*
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 15, 2012 at 1:24 pm
Glad to be of assistance.
Ruby April 15, 2012 at 1:27 pm
Yes, I’m sure you are.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 15, 2012 at 1:28 pm
You’re far too easy to pick on.
Ruby April 15, 2012 at 1:47 pm
I’m pretty sure that’s why you like me.
Stephanie @ Once Upon a Chapter April 15, 2012 at 5:55 pm
Yucky! That’s a long commute. Glad that audiobooks are helping out with that! Looks like you got some awesome books as well!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 15, 2012 at 6:21 pm
Yes. I probably spend at least 20 minutes every day just walking to and from my car, too. Commuting is not really fun.
Missie, The Unread Reader April 16, 2012 at 3:36 pm
Audiobooks are my lifeline right now. With my whole new ‘get active’ mission, if it weren’t for audiobook, I’d have nothing to blog about.
Glad to hear they are working out for you too!
As always, thanks for many of those links. There are quite a few things I missed out on, that I now want to check out.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 16, 2012 at 4:48 pm
I am kind of interested in whether audiobooks would be good for me with running. I usually don’t take an mp3 player with me at all, so it’s kind of a toss up. I’ll probably try it, though. Maybe it will get me motivated to run more.
Missie, The Unread Reader April 16, 2012 at 7:58 pm
Well, since my commute to work is only 5 mins, I mainly listen to audiobooks on the treadmill. Works great for me. But then again, I’m not a runner.
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 16, 2012 at 8:36 pm
I miss my roll-out-of-bed-and-walk-to-the-next-room commute.
If I were a walker, audiobooks would be perfect. Though I think the beauty of audiobooks is that they can be used in a variety of situations (and whatever works best for you).
Jacinda @ The Reading Housewives April 17, 2012 at 7:40 am
YAY for more readers! :)
Shirtless tortured men…to funny.
I loved and read the post you linked to about professionalism :) It’s good advice more people need to follow I think. Hopefully people/bloggers think I’m professional…I hope I am!
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 17, 2012 at 8:35 am
I’ve been thinking that perhaps it might be interesting to write a post on how to approach blogging in a professional manner.
Stephanie @ Once Upon a Chapter April 17, 2012 at 7:51 pm
I’d love to know what not to do. I always worry that I’m doing something unprofessional and/or annoying the crap out of people. :)
Amanda @ On a Book Bender April 17, 2012 at 10:44 pm
I have an idea brewing for blogging in a professional manner. Hopefully I’ll have it out in a month. :)
